The Doctrine of Christ: Faith Towards God

Faith Towards God: The Foundation of a Life in Christ

Hebrews 6:1 (NKJV) – “Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith towards God.”

Faith toward God is the second foundational doctrine listed in Hebrews 6:1-2. It is the bedrock upon which a believer builds their relationship with God. Without true faith, it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is not just belief in God’s existence but a total reliance on Him for salvation, direction, and sustenance.

What Is Faith Towards God?

Faith toward God is a deliberate turning away from self-dependence, human wisdom, and worldly security, choosing instead to trust entirely in God’s character, promises, and power. It is the unwavering belief that He is faithful and true to His Word.

Faith is not mere intellectual agreement but an active trust that leads to obedience.

  • Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) – “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

  • Romans 10:17 (NKJV) – “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The Importance of Faith Towards God

  1. Faith Is Essential for Salvation

    • Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) – “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

    • John 3:16 (NKJV) – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

  2. Faith Brings Justification

    • Romans 5:1 (NKJV) – “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

  3. Faith Leads to a Life of Trust and Obedience

    • 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

    • James 2:26 (NKJV) – “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

The Danger of Misplaced Faith

Many people place their faith in themselves, wealth, or human traditions rather than in God. Misplaced faith leads to disappointment and destruction.

  • Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Faith in God means surrendering control and trusting Him in all things, whether in trials, decisions, or daily life.
