Beyond the Gifts.
A Warning to the Church
Have you ever been so eager to grow spiritually that you didn’t realize you were drifting away from the truth?
I have.
I was born and raised in a Christian home. My mother was the first in our family to be born again, and my grandfather was a pastor of a small family church. This lineage of faith shaped my life, and in response to God’s call, I took a leap of faith and pursued Bible school. By God’s grace, I graduated with honors and became a youth pastor in our family’s church. It was an exciting time, knowing that I was following Jesus and stepping into my calling.
But then, things took a turn.
The Deception in Disguise
I got involved with a group of people who, at first, seemed like the perfect faith friends. We were passionate about seeking the deep things of the Spirit, desiring encounters, visions, and supernatural experiences. It felt right—until it wasn’t.
Slowly, without realizing it, we drifted away from God’s Word. The gifts, the wonders, and the supernatural became our obsession. We pursued experiences more than we pursued Christ. We exalted the gifts above the Giver. We sought manifestations over Scripture.
And then came the false prophecies—revelations that seemed spiritual but were, at their core, manipulative and misleading. Prophecies about future spouses, supposed heavenly names, and even the names of angels assigned to us. These so-called revelations played on human desires, offering spiritual-sounding guidance that subtly replaced true dependence on God’s Word. They seemed innocent, even exciting, but in reality, they led people into deception, emotional confusion, and misplaced faith.
This is the danger: when prophecy becomes a tool for manipulation rather than a confirmation of God’s truth. When people become more eager to hear a personal prophecy than to seek the unchanging voice of God in Scripture, they open themselves to deception.
A Warning to the Church
I share this as a warning, especially to those who are eager to seek spiritual gifts and wonders. The Bible tells us to be discerning, to test every spirit, and to study God’s Word like the Bereans (Acts 17:11).
Yes, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are real and powerful. But there is more to the Christian life than signs and wonders. Without the foundation of Scripture and the fear of the Lord, we become vulnerable to deception.
This is the last days, and Satan will use every tool to pull us away from the truth. A heart that does not fear God loses wisdom. A heart that does not seek His Word loses sight of the truth.
Let us take heed. Let us remain rooted in the Word. Let us pursue Jesus above all else.
Pray With Me
Help me pray, that I may write and share the truth that God has revealed in His Word. May we, as His Church, stand firm in faith—not just in gifts and experiences, but in the unshakable truth of God’s Word.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
— Proverbs 9:10
Let us be a people who fear the Lord, love His Word, and stand firm in His truth.
